Isle of Man Classic TT: Lee Johnston claims 350cc win
Lee Johnston obliterated the current 350cc Classic TT lap record on his way to a stunning 45-second victory in the shortened three-lap race on Tuesday.
The Northern Irish racer was inside Chris Palmer's 2013 lap record on all three laps on an MV Agusta.
The Black Eagle Racing rider's new record lap came on his second circuit of the Mountain Course at 105.239 mph.
The win was the first MV Mountain Course victory since Giacomo Agostini's double in the 1972 TT meeting.
Johnston later said the bike had been misfiring on the opening lap and he considered retiring, but with the bike clearing he was able to chase down the leaders.
Honda-mounted Alan Oversby finished second with Blackpool's Roy Richardson third. William Dunlop retired at Douglas Road Corner on the last lap having led the race on the opening lap.
Dunlop, Oversby, Richardson and Johnson all recorded laps inside Palmer's 2013 lap record of 101.469 mph.
Michael Dunlop retired in the pits after lap one when running 11th.
Meanwhile, Tom Jackson, on the T20 Suzuki, was awarded the Phil Read Classic TT Trophy as the first 250cc machine, finishing 20th.
