Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell extends contract

Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell has signed a new five-year contract.

The 48-year-old was appointed as Ian Millward's replacement last May and will now stay with the Tigers until the end of the 2019 season.

Powell has guided the Tigers to fourth in the table and the Challenge Cup semi-finals in his first full campaign.

"I'm obviously delighted to get my future sorted and be given the chance to build on the solid foundations we have set," he told BBC Radio Leeds.

"I said right from the start that I couldn't see any reason why we couldn't be challenging for competitions.

"Looking at this season, we need to make sure that we maintain our levels both in the league and the Challenge Cup, too.

"This is a perfect opportunity for me. They're a good fit for me and I think I am a good fit for them."

Castleford travel to Wigan, who they beat in last week's Challenge Cup quarter-final, on Friday.
