Geordan Murphy: Leicester Tigers cup draw excites assistant coach

Assistant coach Geordan Murphy says the inaugural European Rugby Champions Cup will be a great challenge for Leicester Tigers next season.

Wednesday's draw saw Tigers go into Pool Three with Scarlets, Ulster and Heineken Cup champions Toulon.

"We want to play against the top sides and we certainly have top sides in our pool," Murphy told BBC Radio Leicester.

"It is going to be very important to get home wins, as away wins will be very difficult to come by."

The competition replaces the Heineken Cup and features five four-team groups. Each pool winner and three best runners-up will secure quarter-final places.

Leicester's chance to test themselves against Toulon next season is particularly interesting for Murphy.

He added: "It is exciting to play against a side like that with world-class players. We want to show we can go and beat sides like that.

"It is obviously going to be difficult, but I have no doubt that our squad is strong enough to beat the top teams.

"I think with the guys we've signed and with the experience we have gained over the last couple of years, I think we have more strength in depth.

"This will be important when it comes to those big, big games."
