Ennis falls back in heptathlon

Jessica Ennis struggles on the second day in the heptathlon leaving the British athlete with a difficult task if she is to beat Russian Tatyana Chernova and defend her world title in Daegu.

Ennis equalled her lifetime best mark of 6.51m in the long jump on Tuesday, but Chernova flew out to an impressive 6.61m.

Chernova threw 52.95m in the javelin, piling on the pressure, and Ennis could only reply with 39.95m - well below her best.

The results leave Ennis needing to beat Chernova by a highly unlikely nine seconds in the final event, the 800m, to take gold.

Listen to the race live at 1200 BST on Tuesday on BBC 5 live sports extra and the BBC Sport website.
