Richard Buck delighted with World Championships place
City of York athlete Richard Buck has spoken of his delight at being selected for the Great Britain squad for the World Indoor Championships.
He will run the 400 metres and be part of the 4x400m relay squad after recording the sixth fastest time in the world this year at the weekend.
Buck told BBC Radio York: "It's fantastic. It shows I'm still there and still competitive.
"We're keeping that momentum ahead of the qualifiers and the Olympics."
The 25-year-old ran a time of 45.88 seconds in Birmingham to earn his place at the Championships in Istanbul, Turkey from 9-11 March.
He continued: "I left it until the last minute but that's no different to last year for me.
"The way that my programme is set up you only really start to come into good shape now.
"We'll obviously give it a good run going into the indoors but we won't be giving it the same focus as I've given it in previous years.
"There's a huge competition now this year. The Olympic games is right there and that's my main focus for 2012.
"The confidence is going to be riding high.
"Hopefully we are going to do something good out there and peak at the right time.
"The morale boost I'll get from that going into the outdoor season will be really good."
Buck added to BBC Look North: "[I've] got to put some more work in and hopefully I will be effective out there."
