Jo Pavey overcomes illness to win London 10,000 race
European 10,000m champion Jo Pavey overcame illness to win the Bupa London 10,000 and claim the British 10km road title at the age of 41.
Pavey, who was sick overnight and only decided to run after a warm-up, won in 32 minutes 56 seconds, with Bedford 20-year-old Rebecca Murray second.
"It was a real gamble to run but I'm so glad I did," she said. "To win after a night like that is surreal."
The men's race was won by Andy Vernon, 29, in a personal best time of 28:38.
"I felt in control the whole way," said Vernon, who finished more than half a minute clear of second-placed Jonny Mellor.
Pavey, who also won the title in 2011, finished 23 seconds ahead of junior English cross-country champion Murray.
