Badminton: Kirsty Gilmour meets Rong Schafer in Scottish Open
Home favourite Kirsty Gilmour faces American Rong Schafer in the first round of the Scottish Open Grand Prix.
Gilmour, who took the women's singles silver medal at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, finished runner-up in last year's event.
The Scottish Open is held at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow from 19-23 November.
Gilmour partners Imogen Bankier in the women's doubles, with the pair receiving a bye in the first round.
Bankier and Robert Blair won the mixed doubles last year and will look to defend their title.
Gilmour has never faced Schafer before and, should the 21-year-old Scot see off the American, she could face a quarter-final against Russian seventh seed Natalia Perminova.
Germany's Karin Schnasse, who beat Gilmour in the World Championships, could lie in wait in the semi-finals if the Scot reaches that stage.
Bankier and Blair, who claimed bronze at Glasgow 2014, will be up against a pair from qualifying in their first round match.
Scotland's top men's doubles pair of Martin Campbell and Patrick MacHugh have been handed a tough start against England's Matthew Nottingham and Harley Towler.
