Leicester Riders welcome John Griffin return

Leicester Riders guard John Griffin is fit to make his debut after two months out injured with a fractured thumb.

He joined in August but suffered the injury in his first training session and returned to America for treatment

Griffin is back in the squad for Friday's BBL Trophy match away to the London Leopards and Sunday's BBL Cup quarter-final at Cheshire Jets.

"He's looking to make an impact and help a good team get better," coach Rob Paternostro told BBC Radio Leicester.

"He's an intelligent player and can really put the ball in the basket.

"If there is one area where we have not been great, it's maybe putting up high numbers in points and John is the kind of guy that can do that.

"It was unfortunate how he had the injury but he's looking forward to coming back."

Riders are already out of the BBL Trophy so Paternostro is mindful of not tiring out his players in Friday's match, before they travel to face Cheshire in Sunday's BBL Cup tie.

Paternostro impressed with Riders start

"I have to be concerned about Sunday. The game on Friday doesn't mean anything," Paternostro said.

"We want to keep the guys fresh. Friday will certainly give a lot of our players who haven't seen much action a chance to shine.

"We have lot of guys on the bench who haven't seen major minutes so they will get the opportunity for some more court time.

"It's a good start. We've won our two games in the league and the Cup is a great competition and, in our last game against Milton Keynes, we played about as good as we can play.

"The guys are positive right now and looking forward to playing this weekend."
