Great Britain's women's basketball team cannot qualify for next year's Rio Olympics after being eliminated from the first round of EuroBasket 2015.

Sunday's 76-54 defeat by Serbia in Szombathely, Hungary, was their third loss and means they will not meet their Sport England goal of a top-12 finish.

Sport England provided emergency funding when UK Sport scrapped its investment in the sport in 2014, but further funds hinged on that target.

They also lost to Russia and Latvia.

It had looked like Peter Buckle's side could still have a chance of advancing from the group if they won Monday's final game against Croatia by 10 points.

However, other results did not go their way with a surprise 68-62 victory for Latvia over Russia ending Britain's hopes.

Last month, GB player Azania Stewart shed tears during an interview with the BBC when discussing the potential repercussions of missing out on the Olympics in 2016.
