McGuigan praises Frampton's courage
- From the section Boxing
Barry McGuigan says Carl Frampton showed a "champion's heart" as he recovered from two first-round knockdowns to successfully defend his IBF world super-bantamweight title in Texas.
Alejandro Gonzalez Jr dropped Frampton, 28, to his knees on two occasions in the opening round but Frampton regrouped to earn a unanimous points win in El Paso.
"He had to show courage and come back and he was fantastic in the way he came back," said Frampton's manager McGuigan.
Former world champion McGuigan confirmed that Frampton could now move up to featherweight after struggling to make the weight in Texas.
