'Retired' Welsh boxer Robbie Turley wins Commonwealth title
Welsh boxer Robbie Turley has won a Commonwealth title five years after he was told to retire.
Turley, 30, won the vacant Commonwealth bantamweight title via a ninth-round stoppage of Bobby Jenkinson in Newport.
He missed almost two years after his licence was withdrawn in 2012 due to the results of a brain scan.
His licence was renewed, however, after a lengthy battle involving lawyers and neurosurgeons, who cleared him for a return to the ring.
Turley was cheered on by several of his stablemates, including world champion Lee Selby.
The Cefn Fforest fighter dropped former title holder Jenkinson in the second round and had him in trouble in the sixth.
A crunching body shot in the ninth elicited another count and saw Jenkinson's corner throw in the towel.
