CLOSE OF PLAY SUMMARY

BBC London 94.9's Mark Church:

"A tough day for Surrey after winning the toss and asking Derbyshire to bat on a surface that always offered something to the bowlers.

"Chesney Hughes played particularly well, moving to an excellent hundred until the Surrey bowlers came back into the game in the final session.

"Derbyshire will be the happier of the two sides at the end of the first day."
