Ian Blackwell has signed a two-year contract extension with Durham.

The all-rounder, 33, who joined from Somerset on a three-year deal in 2008, helped Durham retain the County Championship title in his first season.

He is averaging just under 50 with the bat and has picked up 20 wickets in first-class cricket this summer.

Blackwell said: "After winning the championship once with Durham already, I want to make even more of an impact as we look to secure more success."

Head coach Geoff Cook added: "Ian has been a great addition to the team over the past three seasons, producing match-winning performances and contributing to Durham's continued development on the field.

"We're pleased that he has decided to commit to the club for another two years, not only for his performances on the field but for his spin expertise, which he can share with our younger players as the club plan for the long-term future."
