Ross Whiteley signs Derbyshire contract
All-rounder Ross Whiteley has signed a three-year contract which keeps him at Derbyshire until September 2014.
The 22-year-old has been involved in the first team this season, having been retained on summer contracts since graduating from the academy in 2007.
Head coach Karl Krikken said: "Ross has taken his first-team opportunities well and looks a promising cricketer.
"As a player who can strike the ball very cleanly and swing it bowling left-arm, he can be a valuable commodity."
Chairman Chris Grant said: "Following the recent signing of Tom Knight on a long-term contract, this new deal for Ross is the next step as we implement the policy of backing our home grown players.
"Having patiently waited for his opportunity and earning his current place in the first team on merit, Ross is already a shining example of how we want our young players to develop."
Whiteley added: "I have enjoyed being part of the first team this season immensely and it is where I want to be for the rest of my career.
"To be given three full seasons to develop as a cricketer and to prove myself in the county game is a fantastic opportunity and I intend to grasp it with both hands."
