Austria surprised hosts Guernsey with an eight-run victory in the ICC European Division One Twenty20 at KGV.

The Sarnians put Austria in to bat and proceeded to put on a very respectable 130-9 off their 20 overs with Amandeep Amandeep top scoring with 40.

Guernsey chased hard with Jeremy Frith's 39, before he was caught at square leg, and GH Smit 25 not out adding to the side's total of 122-6.

It means the island side dropped to second in their group behind Italy.

Frith told BBC Guernsey: "We didn't bat and bowl as well as we could have done really so all credit to Austria, they played and batted and bowled very well so they deserved to win, well done to them."

Of the 130 total he said: "We'd back ourselves to chase that, I don't think it was too many but we just didn't bat well enough."
