Chris Rogers hit 46 runs as Middlesex reached their victory target of 91 with ease on the final day against Derbyshire at Lord's.
Having bowled the visitors out for 243 in their second innings on Sunday, Middlesex needed 21.3 overs on the final day to win by seven wickets.
The hosts had been struggling at 25-3 but a partnership of 66 from Rogers and Neil Dexter (29) secured the win.
Middlesex are now just five points off Division Two leaders Northants.
Middlesex skipper Neil Dexter told BBC London 94.9:
"We've been playing some really good cricket, I think we were on top throughout the game.
"Chris Rogers and I decided to take the runs as quickly as possible to take the nerves away and we got there in the end.
"If we beat Northamptonshire, then we are in a really good position and we don't have to worry too much about what other teams are doing."
