Leicestershire were left struggling at the close on 148-5.
CLOSE OF PLAY SUMMARY
BBC Radio Kent's Peter Guise:
"The see-saw nature of this basement battle continued on day two with fortunes swinging back and forth.
"Kent will believe that the game has now turned in their favour with Leicestershire's lead restricted to 186 at the close largely thanks to Adam Ball's return of 3-14 to restrict Leicester to 148-5.
"Kent might have plundered more runs in their first innings to build on half centuries for Darren Stevens and Martin van Jaarsveld but brittle batting after lunch left them short of Leicestershire's first innings total."
