Durham collapse to Hampshire defeat

Hampshire claimed their first win of the season and dented Durham's title hopes after both sides forfeited an innings to contrive a run-chase.
In a game heavily affected by the rain Hampshire declared their first innings on 275-7.
Durham's need to score quickly saw wickets fall regularly as Dmitri Mascarenhas posted figures of 6-62.
Phil Mustard (56) and Callum Thorp (43) gave Durham hope but they fell short on 225 all out, to lose by 50 runs.
A winning target of 276 looked a generous one for the home team but Mascarenhas, playing only his third Championship game in two years after an Achilles injury, exploited the moist conditions and took 3-11 from his first eight overs.
Kabir Ali (3-69) offered effective support as Durham struggled to get to grips with their task.
Thorp and Mustard briefly resurrected their hopes of victory as they put on 64 for the seventh wicket.
But their optimism disappeared when Thorp gloved Ali to keeper Michael Bates.
The defeat left Durham only eight points ahead of Lancashire at the top of the table.
