Taunton suffers complete wash-out
|LV County Championship Division One, Taunton|
|Close of play, day two: Somerset 20-0 v Nottinghamshire|
The weather was the winner for the second day running at Taunton as the second day's play between Somerset and Nottinghamshire was rained off.
After rain intervened just eight overs into the day on Wednesday, the two sides this time suffered a complete wash-out.
Somerset, pipped by Notts for the title last September, will be particularly keen to resume on Friday.
They are still very much in the shake-up for this year's Championship.
Somerset's hopes of winning a first ever County Championship title had been boosted by three successive wins.
That had put them in third place in the table, just 14 points behind leaders Durham with a game in hand - and six adrift of second-placed Lancashire.
But heavy rain delayed the start and continued to fall at intervals before umpires Richard Illingworth and Martin Bodenham eventually abandoned any hope of play after a pitch inspection at 16:00 BST.
And, with only two days to go, their best hope of continuing that winning run now appears to lie in a contrived finish.
