Hampshire seize initiative over Somerset at Taunton

|Hampshire 3pts, Somerset 1pt|
Bottom-of-the-table Hampshire took the day one honours after bowling County Championship-chasing Somerset out for 204 at Taunton.
It could have been worse for Somerset, already without injured captain Marcus Trescothick, as they slumped to 86-7 after being asked to bat.
But they earned one batting bonus point thanks to 59 not out by Murali Kartik.
Hampshire closed on 124-1, with Michael Carberry (65no) and Jimmy Adams (57no) having put on an unbroken 123.
As well as Trescothick, Somerset were without Nick Compton because of injury, while Craig Kieswetter and Jos Buttler were both away on England Twenty20 duty.
And they struggled with the bat as soon as James Tomlinson (3-40) scattered Arul Suppiah's stumps, with Alex Barrow and James Hildreth the only two of the top seven batsmen to reach double figures.
Kartik and Alfonso Thomas (27) repaired some of the damage with a stand of 64 for the eighth wicket, with Kartik eventually seeing Somerset past 200 by making his highest score for the county.
Hampshire's reply got off to a poor start when Charl Willoughby trapped Liam Dawson leg before in the opening over, but Carberry and Adams ensured they ended the day in control.
