Yorkshire pegged back by Warwickshire's Chris Metters
LV County Championship Division One, Edgbaston
Close, day one: Yorkshire 254-8 v Warwickshire
Warwickshire 2pts, Yorkshire 2pts
Chris Metters took three wickets as title challengers Warwickshire fought back on day one of their Championship clash with Yorkshire at Edgbaston.
Stand-in captain Joe Sayers hit 84 in a second-wicket stand of 134 with Adam Lyth (74) as Yorkshire looked well placed at 182-1 after being put in.
But slow left-armer Metters (3-45) removed both batsmen as the visitors suffered a middle-order collapse.
They evenutally closed on 254-8 having lost seven wickets for 70 runs.
Sayers, leading Yorkshire in the absence of Andrew Gale and Jacques Rudolph, and Lyth, back in the side after a six-week break, held Warwickshire off for almost half the day as their stand spanned 45 overs.
But Metters kicked off the Warwickshire fightback by having Sayers caught behind before Anthony McGrath and Jonathan Bairstow both fell to catches at second slip by Rikki Clarke.
Metters then claimed the prize scalp of Lyth, trapping him on the crease playing back, before Keith Barker and Chris Woakes both took wickets with the new ball to leave Warwickshire with the hope of wrapping up the Yorkshire innings early on the second morning.
