Northants have handed all-rounder James Middlebrook a two-year contract extension, keeping him at Wantage Road until 2013.

The 34-year-old took 43 wickets at an average of 30.9 in this summer's County Championship with his off spin.

With the bat he scored 644 runs, including three centuries.

"I really enjoyed this past year, with both bat and ball," the former Essex and Yorkshire man told the club website.

"Thanks to my form, I have been able to secure this contract extension and I am very pleased to have the opportunity to extend my stay with Northants.

"We have a good mix of experience and youth here at the County Ground, and it's nice to see a few younger players like Jack Brooks and Alex Wakely get recognised in the England Performance squads."

Head coach David Capel added: "It is good news for Northants that James has committed his future to the club.

"James performed very well for us last season and I'm sure he will continue to play an important role in helping the club achieve its ambitions."
