Pietersen backs tough fixing bans

England batsman Kevin Pietersen believes the Pakistan players caught in the spot-fixing scandal should be severely punished and must not be allowed to return to the sport.

Pakistan trio Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were all jailed in November 2011 for conspiring to bowl no-balls in a Test against England, although Amir was released in February.

Pietersen backs the tough stance taken by authorities on spot-fixing, claiming what they did was "inexcusable" and that they should "serve their time in a very big way because the game of cricket that we all love was dented".
