Kent edge home against winless Hampshire
|Friends Life t20, Ageas Bowl|
|Kent 151-5 beat Hampshire 148-6 by 3 runs|
Hampshire are still without a win in this year's FLt20 despite taking Kent all the way at the Rose Bowl.
The 2010 winners fell narrowly short of Kent's 151-5 despite a furious 18-run assault off the penultimate over.
Essex's win owed much to Sam Northeast, whose unbeaten 46 off 32 balls speeded things up after the visitors reached halfway with only 56 on the board.
But, despite some late heroics from Glenn Maxwell, Neil McKenzie and Kabir Ali, Hampshire fell short on 148-6.
James Tredwell (2-27) and Mark Davies culled Hampshire's progress, with a crucial six-over spell yielding only 26 runs.
That left Hampshire needing to score at almost 10 an over in the closing stages - and a target of 37 off the final two overs.
Australian Maxwell and former South Africa Test batsman McKenzie cracked 18 runs off the penultimate over from Azhar Mahmood.
That left Hampshire needing another 18 to win it off the last over from Matt Coles - and, despite 13 off four balls from Kabir, the task proved just beyond them.
