Northants & Glamorgan Championship first day rained off

The first day of the County Championship match between Northamptonshire and Glamorgan has been abandoned without a ball being bowled due to a sodden outfield.

Torrential rain during Northants' CB40 match against Derbyshire on Friday had produced large pools of standing water around the Wantage Road outfield.

Further rain overnight ensured conditions were unplayable and umpires Mark Benson and Nick Cook called off proceedings at 10:50am, over an hour before play was due to start.

Both teams will hope conditions will improve for the scheduled second day's play on Sunday.
