Lancashire v Somerset: Trego's four wickets put hosts in trouble
County Championship Division One, Liverpool
Close, day one: Lancashire 129-5 v Somerset
Somerset 1pt, Lancs 0pts
Peter Trego took four wickets to put Somerset on top against Lancashire on a rain-reduced first day at Aigburth.
After losing both openers to slip to 28-2, Ashwell Prince (51) and Karl Brown (39) put on a stand of 79.
But Somerset hit back late on, reducing relegation-threatened Lancashire from 107-2 to 129-5 at the close.
Experienced all-rounder Trego (4-34) proved the pick of the visiting attack on a day when Somerset gave a debut to 21-year-old slow left-armer Jack Leach.
Having taken 11 wickets in his last two matches for Somerset Seconds, Leach also claimed the scalp of Hashim Alma in last month's two-day match against the South Africa tourists.
The visitors also welcomed back captain Marcus Trescothick back for his first Championship match since against Nottinghamshire in April.
And they gave a debut to Andrea Agathangelou, a South-African Cypriot who has impressed for Rishton in the Lancashire League.
Torrential mid-afternoon and evening showers meant 44 overs were lost during the day.
Things could have been much worse for Lancashire but Prince hit five fours in his patient 51 off 94 balls, including five fours.
