County Championship Division Two, Grace Road
Leicestershire 356 & 265-8 dec beat Hampshire 181 & 314 by 126 runs
Leicestershire 23pts, Hampshire 3pts
Hampshire went down to an expected defeat by Leicestershire but not without making a real fight of it thanks to a stunning last-wicket stand between Chris Wood and David Balcombe.
Resuming on 77-4 at Grace Road, the end looked nigh when Hampshire slid to 146-9, despite Liam Dawson's 49.
But number nine Wood (105 not out) and last man Balcombe (73) both recorded career best scores as they put on 168.
The visitors were eventually bowled out for 314, as the hosts won by 126 runs.
Leicestershire's second victory of the season lifts them off the bottom of Division Two up to seventh.
Hampshire's heroic last-wicket stand ended when Nathan Buck bowled Balcombe to take the final wicket.
Wood and Balcombe had got to within 24 of Hampshire's 10th-wicket record stand of 192, set in 1921 by Alex Bowell and Walter Livsey against Worcestershire at Bournemouth.
Balcombe's innings of 73 was the best ever by a Hampshire number 11, beating the previous record - Livsey's 70 not out in that game at Dean Park in 1921.
