The first day of the game between Lancashire and Surrey at Liverpool was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Lancashire have left Ashwell Prince out of their squad, while Kevin Pietersen and Murali Kartik have not been included in Surrey's team.

Surrey are aiming for their third win in four matches while Lancashire, relegated last week, have only won once in Division One this season.

Heavy rain in the north west caused the umpires to abandon play before lunch.

VIEWS FROM THE COMMENTARY BOX

BBC Radio Lancashire's Scott Read:

"The outfield was just too wet to play cricket because of heavy overnight rain and showers this morning.

"The worry is if we get anymore rain tonight or tomorrow then we might yet lose a second day.

"Over 1,600 overs have been lost to the weather for Lancashire this season, compared to 250 last year."
