Gloucestershire captain Michael Klinger helped his side achieve maximum batting points but could do nothing to prevent the draw against Hampshire.

Australian Klinger (163) built a 109-run partnership with Alex Gidman (69) before being caught behind on 337-3.

Klinger's fine knock, which included 17 fours and two sixes, gave them a lead of 126 when they declared on 400-4.

Benny Howell took the early wickets of Jimmy Adams and Liam Dawson, but a draw was called on 120-4, six behind.

Adams, who hit an unbeaten 138 in the first innings, was caught lbw for 21 and Dawson fell for a duck to Howell, who finished on impressive figures of 15-2 off 13 overs.

At one stage of the second Hampshire innings, Gloucestershire had four substitutes on the field with Cameron Herring suffering from conjunctivitis, Hamish Marshall ill and Jack Taylor and Will Gidman both injured.
