County Championship Division One league leaders Sussex held on to claim a draw against Nottinghamshire at Hove.
The visitors, resuming on 304-9 in their second innings, added a further 26 runs before Luke Wright bowled Paul Franks, who was dismissed for 78.
Sussex, set an unlikely winning target of 381 in 90 overs, moved to 95-2.
The hosts then fell to 153-6 as Ajmal Shahzad took three wickets, but 51 not out from Ben Brown ensured the match ended in a draw.
Sussex looked comfortable in their second innings as Chris Nash scored 46 before Harry Gurney, who took a hat-trick in the first innings, had home captain Ed Joyce caught behind by Chris Read.
Shahzad then claimed the wickets of Nash, Luke Wright, who was out for a duck, and Rory Hamilton-Brown to leave Nottinghamshire four wickets from victory.
There were still 25.1 overs remaining, but the visitors were frustrated by Brown's half century and Chris Jordan's unbeaten 28.

BBC Radio Nottingham's Dave Bracegirdle: "Despite being denied the victory by a resolute Sussex batting performance, Nottinghamshire can take plenty of positives from their performance at Hove.
"Several players turned in their best performances of the season so far - with Harry Gurney's hat-trick earning him a place in the county's record books."
