T20 Blast: Jim Allenby ton sets up Glamorgan victory over Middlesex
|NatWest T20 Blast, Richmond:|
|Glamorgan 187-4 (19.3 overs) beat Middlesex 184-3 (20 overs) by six wickets|
Jim Allenby hit his first Twenty20 century for Glamorgan as they successfully chased down a big total to beat Middlesex at Richmond.
Glamorgan's victory, with just three balls to spare, lifts them into the T20 Blast South Group top four.
Dawid Malan made 68, backed by Daniel Christian (48) and Eoin Morgan (41) as Middlesex finished on 184-3.
But captain Allenby then replied with 105 as Glamorgan reached 187-4, Jacques Rudolph supporting him well with 42.
The pair put on 136 for the first wicket, before Allenby went on to complete only the third century scored in this year's T20 competition.
Glamorgan remain in quarter-final contention thanks to their fourth win in nine games.
They are back in action on Friday night at Cardiff against Somerset before travelling to Colwyn Bay for the start of their next County Championship game against Surrey on Sunday.
Middlesex, who remain bottom, with just one win from 11 games, do not play again until they visit Southampton to face Hampshire next Friday (11 July).
Glamorgan captain Jim Allenby:
"We didn't play at our best overall, but we still did enough to win and it was a victory we really needed in terms of the group, especially as we have now got a difficult game against Somerset in Cardiff.
"It was also an important result because we hadn't won in our previous four group games, but it was a belter of a pitch and Jacques Rudolph and I managed to get on a roll and put together a partnership."
Middlesex captain Eoin Morgan:
"We batted well to post a good total and we certainly gave ourselves something to bowl at.
"But I reckon our fielding tonight cost us around 15 to 20 runs - and that was the main difference."
