James Vince and Sean Ervine both struck half-centuries as Hampshire batted out a draw against Gloucestershire.
Resuming day three at Southampton on 446-5, Will Gidman went on to score 119 before the visitors declared on 504-8, a first-innings lead of 207.
David Payne (1-30) had Michael Carberry (12) caught behind and Gidman (1-47) removed Will Smith (4) cheaply.
Vice-captain Vince (63) and Ervine (57 not out) steadied the ship and ensured Hampshire escaped with a draw.
The home side were still in danger of falling to their first loss of the season when Vince was caught behind off Tom Smith (2-62) but a partnership of 74 between Ervine and Adam Wheater (29) kept Hampshire's unbeaten record intact.
Gloucestershire moved 24 points clear of Derbyshire in eighth, while Hampshire returned to second place, four points behind leaders Worcestershire, who have a game in hand.
BBC Radio Gloucestershire's Bob Hunt:
"Although Gloucestershire ran out of time to finish off the job, they can take a lot of positives from the last four days.
"All the batsmen contributed, and a bowling attack beset by injuries plugged away on an unresponsive pitch."
