Ben Slater and Wayne Madsen hit half-centuries as Derbyshire built a big lead over Leicestershire on day two.
Resuming at Derby on 25-2, the visitors crumbled to 141 all out, young Stoke-born paceman Ben Cotton taking 4-20.
Opener Billy Godleman fell cheaply to leave the hosts 35-1 in reply, but Slater (73 not out) and Madsen (66 not out) went on to share an unbroken stand of 127 for the second wicket.
Leicestershire not good travellers
Leicestershire have played 31 matches since their last away victory in the County Championship.
They have lost 15 and drawn 16 since their last win on the road, against Northamptonshire, in their final away game of 2010.
Derbyshire then closed on 162-1, with already a commanding advantage of 310.
Victory for Derbyshire, relegated from Division One a year ago, could lift them as high as fourth in the table.
Leicestershire are already sentenced to finishing bottom for the second straight year.
