James Vince hit an unbeaten century to leave Hampshire on the verge of victory against Warwickshire at Southampton.

Resuming on 82-1, Vince and Michael Carberry (91) scored freely before Carberry was caught behind off seamer Boyd Rankin just before lunch.

Vince made 125 from 190 balls, with Joe Gatting adding a quick-fire 31 as the hosts declared on 283-3, a lead of 443.

Ian Westwood (53) and Rikki Clarke (53 not out) offered some resistance for Warwickshire, who finished on 161-6.

Hampshire's top order woes
James Vince became the first top-five Hampshire batsman to make a County Championship century this season.

Having dominated the second day's play by bowling the Bears out for 125, Hampshire remained in the ascendancy in the morning session as Carberry and Vince put on 180 for the second wicket.

Carberry fell agonisingly short of a first Championship ton of the season, while Will Smith was dismissed cheaply after the interval.

Vince reached his maiden century of a disappointing campaign to date, but Warwickshire could not match his efforts with the bat.

Westwood and Clarke were the only batsmen to make more than 16 runs, as the Bears ended the day requiring an unlikely 283 to win with only four wickets left.
