Sam Northeast hit 154 not out to put Kent on course for a first-innings lead against Gloucestershire at Canterbury.

An unbeaten 46 from David Payne propelled the visitors to 337 all out.

The Gloucestershire seamer then bowled Daniel Bell-Drummond and Joe Denly for ducks as Kent were reduced to 6-2.

However, Kent captain Northeast, who hit 18 fours and a six, shared a 204-run third-wicket stand with Tom Latham (90) as the hosts recovered to close on 304-3, trailing by 33 runs.

Kent captain Sam Northeast told BBC Radio Kent:

"The pitch has just got better and better. There was a little bit there with the new ball and they will obviously take that in the morning, so we'll have to get through that early period.

"There's not a lot there yet for the bowlers. The pitches have got a lot better this year and the no toss rule has helped hugely.

"It's put us in a very good place. Hopefully the weather stays away and we can try to get 300 ahead."
