Durham's County Championship home game with Warwickshire was badly interrupted by the gloomy weather on day three as only eight overs were possible.

No play was possible before lunch as Warwickshire tried to resume on 315-7.

Play then began at 13:45 BST with the floodlights on at Chester-Le-Street.

Tim Ambrose (38 not out) and Keith Barker (26 not out) added 29 runs inside half an hour without the loss of any further wickets, to reach 344-7, stretching their lead to 137.

But the umpires had to go along with the ruling that the natural light was not good enough and that it showed no sign of improvement.

Play was finally abandoned for the day midway through the post-tea session, improving Durham's chances of extending their unbeaten home Championship record to seven matches.
