Well what a shock to the world of cricket
Well done Zimbabwe. Let's hope that the Sri Lankan cricketing authorities can wrest the sport back from their government. This result shows the folly of reducing the number of teams for the 2019 World Cup. It should have been (still can be?) expanded so that the likes of Zimbabwe and Bangladesh as well as emerging teams such as Afghanistan, Ireland and The Netherlands can all compete.
Makes the test interesting - an away win for Zim would be a big shock but SL are in freefall at the moment. Zim need to get more tests - Eng/Aus/India/Pakistan are just not interested. The big nations need to slip in a test match ahead of tours of SA - no 1 dayers just a test maybe even in SA if there's a problem with security - it will be like playing Ireland ahead of Eng tests.
@ 8. alt_leftThere are things going on behind the scenes with Sri Lanka at the moment that have not been reported and there is too much outside interference from people who know nothing about cricket, including the country's Sports Minister. This upheaval isn't helping a young and inexperienced team develop.
Well done Zimbabwe! SL are really up and down. Beat India in the ICC, and had the chances to beat Pakistan and SA, but blew them. This doesn't surprise me really. It will take years for us to get just to top 5.
This comment was removed because it broke the house rules. Explain
The wheels have come off for SL.Ill-discipline was always their downfall but Malinga's recent abominable racist insult marks a new low point.
These 2 teams are living proof that politics should stay out of sport
Sri Lanka will never win a major trophy let alone win a series as long as there is political influence in the selection of the board as well as the players. Some players are in the team due to the pressure from political hierarchy. At the same time there are players just playing for money, not performing well for the country but happy to perform for overseas competitions, eg IPL
Recently Zimbabwe lost to The Netherlands as well. Zim just beat Sri Lanka, and Sri Lanka recently beat India - so we can assume The Netherlands are better than India. Right?
Let see Zimbabwe back on the test circuit playing all teams home and away
Tremendous result, that. Good to see Zim back on the cricketing radar again.
Well done Zimbabwe... There is hope... Let's see how the test match goes... A little bit of variation in bowling attack will be needed.
