Germany set new world record

The German pair of Kristina Vogel and Miriam Welte break the World Record set in February by Britain's Victoria Pendleton and Jess Varnish in the opening heats of the women's sprint pursuit on the first day of the Track Cycling World Championships in Melbourne.
The duo bettered the 32.754 set by the British pair at the Olympic Velodrome in London by 0.124 seconds, acheiving a time of 32.630 to qualify for the gold medal race against Australia.
