Weggemann on paralysis & Paralympics
- From the section Disability Sport
United States Paralympic swimming champion Mallory Weggemann was paralysed at the age of 18, after an epidural to relieve back-pain had catastrophic consequences.
London 2012 gold medallist in the S8 50m freestyle event, is using the crowd-funding phenomenon to help raise around £30,000 for new carbon-fibre leg braces which she hopes will enable help to 'walk' again.
If Weggemann achieves her target then the 24-year-old will move from Minnesota to Detroit in the US and begin working with the device in late October.
