Armagh's Dearbhail Savage, 15, wins Special Olympics gold

County Armagh 15-year-old Dearbhail Savage has won equestrian gold for Ireland at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles.

Dearbhail began competing three years ago after joining the Saddle of Reins Special Olympics club based at Oakgrove Riding School in Mayobridge.

She hails from Clady and the village's GAA club tweeted their congratulations to her on Wednesday night.

The club's tweet described Dearbhail as the "pride of Clady".

On Tuesday, Belfast gymnast Kirsty Devlin won two gold and two silver medals at the Games as the medals started to flow for the 88-strong Ireland team.

The success continued on Wednesday with Tipperary track and field athlete Rachel Ryan winning 400m gold and Louth sprinter James Meenan winning a bronze in his 200m final.

Lurgan swimmer Sarah Jane Johnston won bronze medals on Sunday and Monday.
