Paul Jewell lines up Ipswich Town midfield strength
Ipswich Town boss Paul Jewell has made bringing in a defensive midfielder a priority over the summer.
David Norris and Grant Leadbitter lined up in the centre of the park for Town in Tuesday's 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough.
Leadbitter showed his willingness to go forward by scoring twice but Jewell told BBC Radio Suffolk he needs to find more balance in his midfield.
"We certainly don't have that holding midfielder who is defensive," he said.
"The midfield players we have at the club really want to go forward, which is great when we're on the ball but I think at times it leaves us a little bit vulnerable to the counter attack, more so at home than away, because the onus is on us to attack at home.
"And we want to attack and we want to pass the ball, but at times we do leave our back four a little bit exposed."
Meanwhile Town will assess the fitness of left-back Mark Kennedy after the Irishman was replaced by Darren O'Dea with seven minutes remaining against Boro.
"He's got a tight hamstring, he told us early enough and Darren came on and did very well there," said Jewell.
