Grant McCann plays down fitness worries

Peterborough United captain Grant McCann has denied the team are struggling for fitness.

Posh have conceded late goals in five of their past seven matches, leaving boss Darren Ferguson concerned.

McCann, 31, told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I know the gaffer has mentioned fitness, but I think it's more about just staying focused.

"In the past it's been us who have come strong late in games so I'm not certain it's about fitness."

The London Road side have won just twice in their past nine matches and are without a victory in three games.

McCann has said they will be doing all they can to pick up three points against Dagenham in their final regular fixture.

"We're in the play-offs now and we need to try and find some momentum ahead of the games against either MK Dons or Bournemouth," he said.

Peterborough have not taken part in the play-offs since winning promotion from the old Third Division in 2000.

However McCann was part of the Scunthorpe side which beat Millwall in the League One final in 2009.

"A lot of our players haven't been in the play-offs, but many of them have been promoted automatically," he said.

"It's a different sort of experience with an extra month of football if you get through to the final, but we definitely fancy our chances."
