Oxford United have signed former Grays Athletic centre-back Ryan James on a six-month deal.

The 21-year-old has been at the Nike Academy, which takes in players released by clubs or who have not found a professional club.

He said: "I'm really delighted to be here at Oxford United and offered the chance to join the squad.

"I'm very excited about the future and can hopefully break into the team and prove what I can offer."

He added: "I know Oxford are an ambitious club and I want to be part of that future. I'm looking forward to the challenges ahead."

James, who played for Grays six times in 2009, is Oxford's second summer signing, following the recruitment of left-back Tony Capaldi on Friday.
