Hibernian have re-signed former striker Garry O'Connor on a one-year deal.

The 28-year-old is a free agent after his contract with Barnsley expired in April and had been training in Edinburgh with former Hibernian coach Dougie Fowler.

O'Connor, capped 16 times for Scotland, also spent time training with Celtic in May.

The striker scored 58 goals for the Edinburgh club in his first spell at Easter Road.

A £1.6m move to Lokomotiv Moscow in 2006 saw O'Connor become the first Scottish player to sign for a Russian club, but his family failed to settle in the Russian capital and O'Connor transferred to Birmingham City in 2007 for a fee of £2.7m.

His time at Birmingham, under his former Hibs manager Alex McLeish, was marred by injury and he was loaned to Barnsley in September 2010 in a bid to prove his fitness.

He then signed with the Tykes until the end of the season, but his contract was cancelled by mutual consent in April.
