Bristol City defender Louis Carey has signed a new one-year deal at the Championship club.

The 34-year-old Robins captain started his career at Ashton Gate in 1995 and has since made 604 appearances across two spells.

"I'm absolutely buzzing," the 34-year-old told BBC Radio Bristol.

"I've sorted stuff out with the gaffer, I've got away on holiday and got away from the place for a couple of weeks and now I'm looking forward to it."

Despite suffering a torn calf, a broken nose and a fractured skull during last season's campaign, Carey managed to feature in 21 games for City and believes he will be able to maintain a high level of fitness next season.

"I obviously want to play every game," he said. "I felt fine last year and unfortunately I had a torn calf from an impact tackle and then the clash of heads.

"If I hadn't have had those I felt the best I had for years. Now I've had the summer off I've regrouped and I'm ready to go."

Meanwhile, boss Keith Millen says striker Nicky Maynard wants to stay at City, despite approaches from several other clubs.

"He wants to stay and play for this club and try and get us promotion," revealed Millen.

"I'm delighted he's said that, he's happy here with what we are doing so the next stage is to sit down with his agents and try and thrash out a new contract."
