New Ipswich Town striker Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has said he must prove he is capable of performing in the Championship on a regular basis.

The 20-year-old showed his potential during a 14-game loan spell at Cardiff last season, in which he scored twice.

But inconsistency meant he had to settle for substitute cameos in seven of those appearances.

"I need to do it on a weekly basis. I need to keep it as consistent as possible," he told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"Even if you're not having a good game you need your moments in a game where something happens."

The signing from Arsenal will be familiar with fellow Town recruit Michael Chopra, the pair played alongside each other eight times for Cardiff last season.

"I know him quite well, I spoke to him before I came," the former England Under-19 international added.

"It's going to be a great experience playing with him on a weekly basis.

"In the long-term I'd most like to play off the striker, I'm good at attacking and making things happen."
