Rae said progress in the cup could boost Queen of the South's finances

Queen of the South chairman Davie Rae has said progress in the Scottish Communities League Cup could help the club's finances.

The Dumfries side have landed Forfar Athletic at Palmerston Park after defeating Stranraer in the first round.

Rae said he believes, if his team played to their ability, they could go further in the competition.

He said that could provide a welcome boost to finances at the Scottish First division outfit.

"I am absolutely delighted, first of all to get a home draw for a whole lot of reasons," he said.

"We have only got one home league game in August, so now to have two home games in August is great."

Queens will go into the tie as favourites against the Second Division outfit.

"If we don't get complacent and we play to the potential we can play to, I would think we should progress to the next round," added Rae.

"With all due respect to Forfar, I will be looking to win and go forward.

"This cup is a good cup to be in and, if you can progress, there are some good financial rewards to come later."
