Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver is confident his side will enjoy a successful season despite some "stuttery" pre-season performances.

The 33-year-old has previously stated that his aim is to reach the Blue Square Bet North play-offs.

However his side have won just one pre-season match and lost defender Danny Stimpson for nine-months after he injured a cruciate knee ligament.

Weaver told BBC Radio York: "We haven't gelled as quickly as we'd have liked."

He added: "[Pre-season results are] not the be-all and end-all to be honest because you can't win any points in pre-season.

"It's all about getting the lads fit and gelling together and to be honest it's been a bit stuttery.

"I think the lads need a bit of patience, everyone's trying and everyone's acquiring the right level of fitness, they look the part physically.

"We just have to tweak a couple of things and I think it will work. Once these lads gel, they'll really fire."
