Cambridge United defender Michael Wylde insists he will be a "committed" captain after being given the armband in his first season at the club.

The 24-year-old joined Cambridge on a free transfer from Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Tamworth in May.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We've got a young squad but I'm only 24 so it's quite a big honour.

"I'll be committed, I'll be talkative, and hopefully there'll be some clean sheets, being a defender."

Wylde agreed a two-year deal at the Abbey Stadium in May and is set to make his debut against Wrexham on Saturday.

"I feel good fitness-wise and I think all the lads do," he said.

"There's been a lot of sorting out to be done [at the club] in the summer, but that hasn't affected pre-season."
