Flying Eagles edged out of U20 World Cup by France
Nigeria are out of the Under-20 World Cup after losing 3-2 to France in a dramatic quarter-final on Sunday.
Substitute Maduabuchi Ejike equalised for the Flying Eagles in the dying moments of the normal time to send the game to extra-time.
France had grabbed a lead just after half-time through Alexandre Lacazette from close range.
Nigeria came into the match having won their first four matches and were the highest scoring team in the tournament.
But despite dominating the quarter-final, they only made a few threatening attacks as the French maintained a solid back line.
In the extra-time, Gueida Fofana gave France a 2-1 lead in the 102nd minute, and two minutes later Alexandre Lacazette picked up his second of the match to seal the victory.
Lacazette looked to have put the game beyond Nigeria, but Maduabuchi Ejike got a touch to Uche Nwofor's goal-bound effort to slot in a second in 111th minute.
The elimination is another disappointment for the west Africans, who have finished second two times - in 1989 and 2005.
The other African representatives- Egypt, Cameroon and Mali had been eliminated earlier.
